Welcome to Senja
A world of contrasts
Senja is an island of strong contrasts. The ferry “Andfjordferga” takes you across the fjord to this great and beautiful island. The crossing offers great views of the islands either side of the fjord and with maximum luck – you’ll get to see some whales greet you as well.
The ferry docks at Gryllefjord, only a short drive from Hamn, a traditional fishing village, that in 1995 was rated “Tourist destination of the year” in Norway.
The theme park “Hulderheimen” with its adventure centre will definitely put a smile on your face. The park includes the worlds biggest troll, listed in the Guinness book of records.
The coastline of Senja
The western coastline of Senja is wild and stunning. Jagged mountains create a fascinating and spectacular landscape. The mountains nicknamed “Devils Jaw” reach out into the Norwegian Sea like fingers. The roads along the coast are a great experience of their own! However – cyclists might like an alternative route better, as there are a few tunnels along this route.
Finnsnes
Finnsnes, one of the islands busiest trade towns, welcomes all travellers, offering a wealth of cultural experiences – especially during the annual “Finnsnes i Fest” festival.
